Easy Way To Turn A Ho-Hum Dinner Party Into A Smashing Success
from:You have prepared all month. You even had invitations engraved and bought a new cookbook to serve something new and different. You asked a wine expert which vintage went best with which. You were prepared!
There is little doubt that whether it be a business meeting, a dinner party, or a casual rendezvous, the “leader sets the tone”.
If you are having a cocktail or dinner party or combination of the two, it is important to realize several realities. Though, usually these are your friends, you are probably having the event on a weekend, and people have been working hard all week and are tired....no exhausted. They may not be in the best of moods. You may have even invited new friends outside your normal circle of friends and there is extra stress involved in helping them assimilate into the fold.
There is much more to it than fine food and wine.
What might solve the problem?
Aprons.
Yes, I said Aprons, or an apron. How can an apron “set the tone” for a party. First of all it can't be any ordinary apron. Yes, aprons are coming back in style (for both men and women) and ads a touch of elegance to any dinner party, being symbolic that someone has taken the time to prepare something special for someone(s) special.
But there is more to it than that. The aprons that are hitting the world by storm are under the auspices of “funny aprons”. Many have funny sayings such as “Kiss me, I cooked this mess”, etc. But there is much more to a theme-oriented apron than “a funny saying”.
Let's say you are a scientist and inviting a group of your colleagues to your home. Wouldn't a funny cartoon apron regarding science “set the tone”, immediately loosen folks up, and break the ice immediately? The same is true of dog-lovers, cat-lovers, Hollywood fans, music lovers, etc.
Only a few stores specialize in humor-specific-topic-theme aprons. You may have to search a bit to find one; or you can always go to justfunnyaprons.com and there are other stores depending on your taste.
No matter what the theme of your party, there is probably an apron that fits the occasion.
Do a little experiment if you have the time, money and/or energy. Try throwing a theme party, for your colleagues or friends who love music. Don't wear a theme apron, simply throw the party. Take mental notes of how people interact with you and others. You might be surprised to “feel” a low energy in the room without a lot of laughter.
A month or two later, throw a similar party wearing a theme apron. See the difference? Hear the laughter? The goodwill? It is amazing that something as simple as a “designer apron” for around $20 can make the difference between a smashing success or a ho-hum event.
